What is bulimia?

Bulimia is one of the eating disorders; if you are overly conscious of your weight or size and have behaviours around eating (such as eating and then making yourself sick, purging) that you are ashamed of, then you might have bulimia. You might be secretive about this behaviour and find if difficult to talk to anyone about it.

How do we treat or cure bulimia?

We treat bulimia by a mixture of cognitive changes and behavioural experiments. It is likely that your mood is variable and that you find it difficult to tolerate being down, and so resort to eating and purging as a way of regulating your low mood. You may have low self-esteem, which is reinforced by your current thinking and behaviour. Your might be perfectionist. You might have interpersonal problems meaning you find relationships with other people to be difficult.
